Sandor Verstrepen will always hold a truly special place in the heart of the Papa Steve Camp. Sandor grew up alongside our Papa Steve family, and over the years, he dedicated himself as one of our camp coaches—impacting countless young lives. He was not just an outstanding coach, but also a cherished and admired figure in the Union City education and football communities. For three decades, Sandor poured his passion and wisdom into teaching and coaching at Alvarado Middle School and throughout the New Haven Unified School District.
In July 2025, Sandor passed away after bravely facing glioblastoma multiforme (GBM), a challenging form of brain cancer. Even in his toughest moments, Sandor’s hope for our camp was unwavering—he asked us to keep the Papa Steve Camp going strong. In honor of Sandor and his family, our team is proud to host a special one-day camp for all campers in grades 2 through 8, celebrating his remarkable legacy and the spirit he brought to our community.
Camp is open to boys and girls. All positions welcome.
